Cinnamon rolls with vanilla custard

So a couple of days ago I promised you the recipe for Solskinnsboller, in other words, cinnamon rolls with vanilla custard =)

Dough:

5dl milk

1 egg

125g butter

1,5dl sugar

2 ts cardamom

50g baking yeast

15dl flour

 

Cinnamon fill:

80g soft butter (room temperature)

4tbs cinnamon

4tbs sugar

Frosting:

4dl powdered sugar

2tbs cold water

2ts vanilla sugar

 

Melt butter and add milk. Heat up till it's lukewarm (37C/98F). In a bowl, mix sugar and eggs, add flour (save a little bit), yeast, cardamom and butter/milk mixture. Beat the dough till it's smooth (for best result use a mixer on high speed). Let rest till size is doubled.

Split the dough in half. Sprinkle the rest of the flour on the counter, and roll out both parts of the dough to a square (25x40cm/10x15in). Spread the soft butter all over both parts of the dough, and evenly sprinkle cinnamon and sugar. Roll up the dough from the long side. Cut each of the rolls in parts of 2cm/1in. Put them on trays covered in baking sheets. If you wish to make cinnamon rolls you can leave them like this. If you want a center of vanilla custard press down the middle of each bun and add a full tablespoon of custard.

Bake in the middle of the oven for 8-10 mins, 225C/435F. Mix the frosting together, but cool down the buns before you decorate.
